In compliance with AYSO National Rules and Regulations, the Regional Board of Directors of AYSO Region 73 announces the opening of the application period for the position of Regional Commissioner (RC). The Regional Commissioner position requires a time commitment averaging 25-30 hours per week. During the months of the primary and secondary programs, hours can increase depending on program requirements, meetings and special events. Region 73 is working closely with the City of Bakersfield Recreation and Parks Department to maintain the Bakersfield Sports Village Soccer Fields Facilities.

Qualifications to be eligible to nominate yourself or be nominated for this position are that you are preferably a current or past Regional Board member and an AYSO registered volunteer in good standing with the AYSO organization and R73. The RC must be a good communicator and fully understand the AYSO’s Mission and Vision.

The process is to have open nominations and candidates presented to the Nomination Committee (NC).  At the conclusion of the open nomination period, the NC will present a list of eligible candidate applications to the Regional Board to review.  The Regional Board will then conduct an election to vote on who will be the RC. 

The current RC term ends on April 30, 2026. The successful candidate will become the RC Elect until such time the current RC term expires or an agreed upon transition date occurs.

The nomination process is now open and will close March 20, 2026. It is anticipated that the vote will occur by March 24 and the Region 73 Board Members RC, CVPA, RR, RCA, RRA, RSD and RT in place at the time of the open nominations will be eligible to vote. The meeting location is at Magoo’s Pizza, 7900 District Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93313. The election process starts at 6pm on March 24, 2026.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE (NC)

NC Members are Donna Nelson (chair), Jose Ortega, Anton Noz, Jose Espinoza.
The NC will vet each of the candidates for eligibility and as an AYSO volunteer in good standing.
The voting members of the Regional Board shall, by a majority vote, nominate an RC.
The nomination is forwarded to the Area Director and Section Director.
On acceptance the RC nomination will be forwarded to the AYSO National Board of Directors for election.
