IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION NOTES

Please read carefully before registering as an AYSO volunteer (adult or youth).

1. Sports Connect Account (SCA)

  • Every volunteer, including youth volunteers, must have their own Sports Connect Account (SCA).

  • Each account must use a unique email address (no shared logins).

  • A volunteer application must be completed annually in the SCA.

2. Parent/Guardian Requirements for Youth Volunteers

  • The parent or guardian must create their own SCA before the youth volunteer creates theirs.

  • The parent/guardian must e-sign the youth volunteer’s application.

  • Parents don’t have to be volunteers, but it’s highly encouraged to support and motivate youth participants.

3. Youth Volunteer Eligibility

  • Youth volunteers may apply for any volunteer role, but age restrictions may apply depending on the job.

  • Required youth training includes:

    1. AYSO Safe Haven (completed annually)

    2. CDC Concussion Awareness (completed every two years)

    3. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) course (one-time requirement)

  • Additional training may be required depending on the position before starting.

4. Background Checks

  • Youth volunteers (under 18) do not need a background check but must still register annually.

  • Adult volunteers will undergo a background check through Sterling Volunteers.

    • The region will cover the cost once per year.

    • You’ll receive an email from Sterling Volunteers with instructions.

    • At the payment step, choose “Pay Later.” Region 73 will be billed directly.

    • It’s recommended to print or screenshot the confirmation after completing this process.

5. Training and Certification Requirements

  • Volunteers may not begin their roles until all required training and certifications are completed.

  • This ensures compliance with the Volunteer Protection Act.

6. Recordkeeping and Course Credit

  • Volunteers are responsible for tracking their own courses, certificates, and attendance dates.

  • For in-person classes:

    • Record the instructor name, date, time, and location.

    • Take a photo of the sign-in sheet once you’ve signed it.

    • Keeping classmates’ names is also helpful.

7. Course Enrollment Guidelines

  • All courses must be joined online via eTrainU. No walk-ins unless you’ve received prior approval from the instructor.

  • Unregistered participants cannot be added to rosters afterward.

  • If you haven’t received credit for a course within 96 hours, contact the instructor with full details immediately.

  • Most instructors close rosters within 1 business day, so verify your credits promptly.
